                                   The Yeti year 1992

The Yeti meetings were inaugurated in 1992, on the intitiative of Hermann-Josepf Biner. At the first outing, we were but a handful of members. The first rallye took place in March 1992. Since then, meetings take place every last Saturday of February and every third Saturday of August. We also meet fpr the General Assembly held annually between Christmas and New Year in Zermatt.
March 15   First ski meeting. In a snow storm we aimed for the Gornergrat, but the train could not go farther than Rotenboden. Very quickly we had but the possibility to take refuge at Tony's in Riffelalp. Bob Wohlsen came all the way from Philadelphia, but found the high snow conditions difficult, although he is an expert in surroundings over 5'000 metres. Ruedi Zingg,  one of our first members, was also present. Some members run three times the course: real Yetis !

Lifting a glass is a gesture well mastered by Yetis.

August 1st    A Holy Mass is held for the burial of Hans Trachsel, tragically deceased on July 27th on the Matterhorn with his guest Roland Eggenberger. The persons taking part in the ceremony spontaneously paid Fr. 3'223.50 into the Yeti fund. Apparently, we are now accepted in Zermatt.

August 8th    First summer treck, 2 hours from Zermatt to the "Judenkirche" at Schweifenen. The Guides Hermann-Josef Biner, Beni Graven, Manfred Graven and Rolf Regli carried uphill abundant supplies of food and refreshed drinks. Coffee was taken at Trift.

Daniel et Marianna Lauber invited us to a cocktail in their marvellous house in Randa. Later on, we had dinner at the hotel "Schönegg" in Zermatt. An article on our outing appeared in the "Walliser Bote" (Valais daily in German).
