The Yeti Jubilee Year 2000
Feb. 26 About 20 Yetis meet for a cocktail at the Mont-Cervin and later for dinner at Tony's.
Feb. 27 3 groups are formed.
A first group planned to ski off-piste on the Gornergrat, but the snow was so crusty that the group changed to Trockener Steg. An extremely strong wind prevailed there. So, they proceeded to go down the lower Theodul glacier. That same day, the wind killed several hikers not far from there. The group was lead by Gianni Mazzone and Thomas Zumtaugwald. For Nathalie Biraben, it was the first contact with off-piste snow: ambiance !
Another group took the helicopter up to the Monte Rosa with Hugo Biner and met the first group at the Gorner glacier's tongue. They were so exhausted that some of them did not have the energy to join the others for lunch.
The most courageous ones went skin-walking up to Riffelalp and waited there for the first group that finally arrived at 3:00 p.m. !
Aug. 19 Marianna and Daniel Lauber invited us to their chalet St. Hubertus in Ottovan, Täschalp. A cocktail, followed by game meat of Daniel's reserve and accompanied by selected wines from the Valais were a delicious surprise for us all. The Yetis arrived afoot, on mules, by mountainbikes, on motorbikes or in cars. The Lauber's have inaugurated a new golden book for the St. Hubertus visitors.
Sept. A new jubilee badge is created in Brasil by Antonio, the son of Sonia de Castro. It is the one figuring on our homepage, and we have added the numbers 1990-2000.
Dec. 28 General Assembly, followed by a gala jubilee dinner in the Hotel Resort 2222 at Riffelalp, to the sounds of the jazz band GMBH.
