Winter bash 24–25 February

About forty people took part in the cocktail at the Hotel Mont-Cervin. Our president Roberto Seiler welcomed Christof Bürgin, president of Zermatt, as well as our honorary guests Mr. Gustav Setenbolt, Mr. Martin Henderson and his lady friend. He also gave to Fiorenza Trione, the companion of our member Alberto Vittone, her medal as new member.

Underlining the good health of our Club in it's 16th year, he stressed the importance for the Committee and all members to recruit members of the next generation, so as to ensure the continuity of our action.

The president of the Guides' Association, Mrs Bettina Sulliger-Perren, thanked the members for their fidelity towards the Club's mission, and gave the appointment times for tomorrow's outing: skiers at 09:30 at the bottom station of the Matterhornbahnen, non-skiers at 13:00 in the restaurant Silvana at Furri.

Saturday

The 13 participating skiers were monitored by the guides Bruno Wyrsch, Sami and Robi Perren, and Bettina and Marcel Sulliger-Perren. These guides were or still are competition sportsmen and gave a demonstration of the slalom techniques on the slope of the Furgsattel, where they had already prepared a run with doors. Our sporty members Nicoletta and Antonio Visentin joined the other Yetis by marching from Trockener Steg on sealskins in 50 minutes. The weather was fine and warm that morning.

Following the demonstration, membres gathered at 10:45 at the Gandegg for a coffee break that turned into a white wine tasting offered by Gervas Perren. Towards 12:15 the sporting spirit revived and under a now covered sky the Yetis skied over various itineraries to Furri for lunch at Daniel Biner's restaurant. Several Yetis, arriving afoot from Zermatt, joined the group and finally there were about 45 persons enjoying a good meal in sympathetic company.

During the course of the meal, we learned that our member Lilian Fossum was due to participate in the run from Zermatt to Unter-Rothorn this same evening. Unfortunately, she presented signs of a starting flu and had to abandon her project.

We had the great pleasure to have among us this year members from swiss-german part of the country that only seldom show up at our meetings: Walter and Lotti Bühlmann as well as Peter and Vreni Salvisberg. And for the first time, Nicoletta and Jacques Aigrain joined us.
