That is how the summit of the
Matterhorn looks like. Many try to reach it, but sometimes the treck
turns out differently.
When climbing, one passes the Solvay hut (4003 m)

The rescuer is equipped with the necessary material (here Kurt
Lauber)
Stripping
of the Lama type helicopter's door, fixing of the rescue winch. The
rescuer leaves the helicopter, attached to the winch.
Attached to the
cable, the rescuer is lowered to the ground.
The casualty is laid
down at an intermediary site, where a doctor arrived by another
helicopter attends to him.
The doctor gives first aid. He decides
of the place to which the casualty will be evacuated, and uses the
second helicopter for this trnsport. The first helicopter is available
for another rescue or for returning the rescuers to their base.

Pictures of a search for missed persons
The helicopter approaches the area where the missing person is supposed
to be. He transports the rescuer and his dog. It is often difficult to
make out tracks from the helicopter, despite search equipment.

Rescuer and dog are deposited and search the area systematically.

Night alarms are not seldom.

Searches and rescues take place not only in nice weather with helicopter
support. It happens that the rescuers have to go out afoot, as here in
50 cm new snow in the middle of the summer at the Matterhorn. In those
cases a rescue takes much, much more time.

Here climbers were found, but it was too late.

He got lost and fell asleep on his rucksack.
